Distinct patterns of natural selection in Na+/H+ antiporter genes in Populus euphratica and Populus pruinosa

Salt tolerance genes constitute an important class of loci in plant genomes. Little is known about the extent to which natural selection in saline environments has acted upon these loci, and what types of nucleotide diversity such selection has given rise to. Here, we surveyed genetic diversity in three types of Na+/H+ antiporter gene (SOS, NhaD, and NHX, belonging to the cation/proton antiport...

Patterns of distribution and plant diversity in along elevational gradient (Case study: Moghan-Sabalan rangelands)

The study of plant communities is the best way to learn about vegetation structure and distribution as well as various interactions among the plants in an ecosystem. Elevation factor plays a vital role in plant distribution that ultimately leads to specific phytogeographic regions. This study evaluated the changes in species composition, density, frequency, canopy cover and palatability of spec...

Native and alien plant species inventory and diversity in disturbed forests and its economic value

The study was conducted to assess the native and alien plant species in one of the highly disturbed forest (S1) and less disturbed forest (S2) in Mt. Manunggal, Cebu Island, Philippines. Twenty-four quadrats with a size of 20mx20 m were established using a quadrat sampling technique to identify and record all plant species. Diversity indices were utilized to determine species abundance, richnes...

The draft genome sequence of a desert tree Populus pruinosa

Populus pruinosa is a large tree that grows in deserts and shows distinct differences in both morphology and adaptation compared to its sister species, P. euphratica. Here we present a draft genome sequence for P. pruinosa and examine genomic variations between the 2 species. A total of 60 Gb of clean reads from whole-genome sequencing of a P. pruinosa individual were generated using the Illumi...

Distribution patterns and diversity of Onosma in Iran: with emphasis on endemism conservation and distribution pattern in SW Asia

Geobotanical assessment of taxa with a high percentage of richness and endemism plays an important role on conservation plans. South-West Asia is one of the main biodiversity centers of the genus Onosma (Boraginaceae) comprising a high rate of species richness and endemism in Iran. Due to existing threatened factors to habitats and lack of sufficient data on conservation and distribution patter...
